Not just a Fifties Fixer Upper anymore…

In case you haven’t noticed (but of course you have!), “Our Fifties Fixer Upper” is now Sima Spaces! Why the name change, you ask? I’m dishing all the details below.

Room to grow

“Our Fifties Fixer Upper” still rings true to our current home. It is, however, limited to our current home. When I started Our Fifties Fixer Upper (both the Instagram account and the blog), we were about a year into the renovation journey of our 1952 home. Although I loved the process of the renovation and what we had done to our home, I wasn’t quite sure where that journey would take us. Fast forward almost two years and we’ve completed the entire first floor of our home, the majority of the exterior, and are getting started on our basement renovation.

Over the course of our renovation, I’ve learned so much about design, decorating, and renovating. I’ve studied design and decorating, and we’ve both learned things about renovating that we could’ve never imagined when we got started. As my Instagram following has grown, I’ve gotten many inquiries about decorating and designing spaces for people.

A decorating & design business

As I started thinking more seriously about these inquiries, I started researching what it would take for me to be able to provide services for others. After months of studying, planning, and developing, I am just about ready to launch my business! I am thrilled to be able to offer services; I truly love designing, decorating, and styling our own home and can’t wait to do so for others. I take pride in creating a beautiful yet comfortable home that reflects my and Josh’s personalities, and I am excited to be able to do the same for my future clients. S

A blog

As we continue to renovate our home, I wanted to continue to blog about our progress and many projects. My goal has always been, and still is, to provide inspiration for others to turn their house from boring to beautiful. Sometimes it only takes a paint job or new furniture, and other times it might take a knocked-out wall, new windows, and new floors- but it is always possible to transform your home into one that you love. We’ve done so much work on our current home but also have a long way to go, and I’m excited to share our future projects and renovated spaces with you all.

The future

The truth is that our fifties fixer upper isn’t our forever home. It is our very first home, and will always hold a special place in our hearts, but we’ve always known it was a 5-year home. We often get asked, “will you stay for a while when it’s done or will you sell it right away?” Our answer to this was initially to stay for a while (but we also didn’t have any idea how long the renovation would take us!). However, as we’ve grown over the course of the renovation, we’ve realized that we absolutely love the process of renovating and transforming homes. We love it so much that we dream of having a business of our own where we renovate homes and rental properties for ourselves and others. With that being said, we plan on selling our home shortly after we finish it and moving on to the next project. We’re not entirely sure where we’ll land with our next home, but we have big dreams and we’re excited to see where the future takes us. For now, however, we’re enjoying the present and our time here in St. Paul while working on our current home!

An all-encompassing name

I brainstormed potential business and blog names for a long time. Months! Sima Spaces came up early on in my brainstorming process and I kept coming back to it. The more I thought about it, the more I loved it. Our last name is Sima (pronounced sigh-ma), and I wanted a brand name that would be universal and unlimited: fit for our current home projects, future home projects, and future business projects. I wanted it to represent not only interior projects but every space that we might transform- indoor or outdoor alike. Thus, the birth of Sima Spaces!
